HANGING OF AMARA TOCHI (NIGERIAN FOOTBALLER) IN SINGAPORE

Our compatriot, 21-year old Iwuchukwu Amara Tochi was hanged in Singapore on Friday, January 26, despite pleas from the Nigerian Government, the international human rights lobby and the media. The Singapore authorities simply behaved true to type, demonstrating once again zero tolerance for drug trafficking. Tochi's death has filled all Nigerians with a feeling of compassion, and in some instances outrage: first, there was the expressed concern that the young man did not get a fair trial, second, it was felt that the Nigerian government interceded on his behalf rather too late (where were they when the trial was still going on?); third, it is generally believed that the trial failed the ordinary man's test; the case against Tochi was not proven beyond reasonable doubt, the Singaporean authorities were too rigid in applying the law.
In the eyes of the Nigerian public, the Singapore President, S. R. Nathan, the Prime Minister Lee Loong and the Chief Justice Yong Pung How, are too blood minded. Tochi was sentenced to death by hanging for being in possession of 727 grams of diamorphine. The trial court itself established that he was not aware that the capsules that had been given to him by a certain Mr Smith in Pakistan contained hard drugs; he was told that they contained African medical herbs.
This should serve as advice for people travelling to & from anywhere in the world. DO NOT collect packages from people. No matter who they are, so we can avoid things like this. I heard from someone that a girl who i knew right back when i was in naija got caught at Manchester airport with cocaine. I happen to know that this girl comes from a very well known family in naija and so for sure, she was not planning to sell the cocaine. As for if it was for her own personal use, i don't know. Just let's be careful. May Amara Tochi's soul Rest In Peace.

LISTEN UP!!!

Hi! To the football lovers out there, Nigeria will be playing Ghana on the 7th of february. If you want to go watch it, make sure you get your tickets early, but for people who are couch potatoes like me and can't be bothered to go watch it, stick to your TV. Its still live! The only difference is that you are sitting on your sitting room couch, watching it alone (or with some of ur peeps) while you could be out there actually cheering with other football lovers, watching all the players LIVE (i mean actually being there), watching the players mess up and also play their heart out and you also get to see the sad looks on the loosing teams side and shout "ha ha ha!" lol!!!! You know what, i think im actually encouraging you to go buy a ticket and go watch it. I think its a friendly match or the African Cup of Nations 2008 qualifiers. I'm not sure. I need to find out.
Who do you guyz think will win???? Vote now!................................... The results are in!!!!!!!!!! 100% think that the Nigerians will win! Ha!! NAIJA 4 LIFE!!!!!

"GLO WITH PRIDE"

STYLPLUS AND THE GHANAIAN SINGER KWABENA KWABENA

Hey everyone! Hope you are having a good weekend so far. I decided that i want to talk about some african entertainers today. I mean singers. I selected singers from Naija and our neighbouring country Ghana. When i named this article "Glo With Pride", i was actually referring to the naija entertainers. The naija singers are actually doing quite well for themselves i have to admit. 2face for example, is well known for his song "African Queen" which he won an MTV award for. Apart from that, he realeased great songs like "Ole" and "Nfang Mbano" (don't think i spelt it correctly but you guyz get the song i'm trying to tell you about rite?) which he sang the remix with Beenie Man and Reggie.

There is also D'banj. I love his song "Tongolo" but he has other ones like "Soko"(spelling wrong again i think), Paul Play Dairo's "Angel Of My Life" which i think he is best known for (I never heard of the guy till he did that song, so yeah) and also Sunny Neji's "Oruka". I promised myself that i will play it on the day i get married. I can go on for a while mentioning loads of good naija artists like StylPlus (can't forget them) and their "Imagine that" which everyone i've met so far loves by the way. Even my non-naija freinds that i've made listen to the song, luv it. But like i said at the beginning of this post, i want to talk about Ghanaian singers as well. It is a true fact that Ghanaians are well known in Africa for their talent in Hair Dressing (they keep winning the Golden Scissors Award like everytime), but as for singing, im not quite sure.

The main problem with the song of Ghanaian artists is the fact that they never sing in English so we never understand what they are talking about. Im trying to point out a fact that i'm sure many people have noticed and i think this is the reason why they haven't been able to go international. Don't get me wrong. There are very good Ghanaian singers like Ofori Amponsah, VIP, Kwabena Kwabena and Praye. I liked the tune of Ofori's song "Otologe", but that was it. Cos there was no english bit in the song, i never understood a thing he was singing about. I think this puts people off listening to their songs. In naija, we have different languages, but the naija singers always sing in either their language and english or pidgin english so at least we have an idea about what the singer is going on about.

If the Ghanaian singers tackle this, then they will have a wider audience listening to their songs, but if they don't, Ghanaians will forever be the only people listening to Ghanaian music.

AFRICAN FOOTBALLERS

I just wanted to talk about something that has been going on in my head for so long. Im like the biggest football fan eva, and i've come to notice that african footballers have established themselves in such a way that is amazing. Take Didier Drogba for example. Apart from the fact that i think that he is one of the best players in the world, he playa for a club that i love so much. Chelsea. I watched the African cup of nations and i saw him and Samuel Etoo in action and it was just amazing watching them. I jst found that i could not take my eyez off the TV set cos apart from the fact that they are both cute, they are very incredible players. Samuel Etoo plays for Barcelona. They have a very good team as well but personally i think that Chelsea and Barcelona would be left lagging behind without Etoo and Drogba.
Apart from Etoo and Drogba, there are also some nigerian footballers i love. I love Mikel Obi. He plays with Chelsea at the moment but he is doing very good for himself. He is not a "bench warmer" like some other players. There is also Obafemi Martins. He is one of the best young players nigeria has and they should be thankful. Also there is Taye Taiwo. All these players proved their skills at the African Cup of Nations in Egypt and also at the Juniour World Cup were we came 2nd . We would have won but the like i said (every1 sayz 2) the referee was racist i think. Another guy is Joseph Yobo but i like him more for his looks rather than his talents.
The older players who cannot forget are JJ Okocha and Kanu Nwankwo. Unfortunately, Okocha is playing in Qatar at the moment. Dnt know why he decided to go there. I bet he is regreting it now!

NOLLYWOOD

Our movie industry is growing. Apart from the fact that there are so many people this dayz in naija calling themselves actors/actresses (while they know nothing about acting), they are making beta movies....i think. But one thing i find funny is the fact that the nigerian actors are already comparing themselves to the Hollywood actors/actresses. i wonder how they can compare themselves because in nigeria, i think it takes like 2 weeks to shoot a movie, while actors like Nicole Kidman, Will smith and all research for the characters they are going to play for a period of time, and then shooting starts. Shooting takes at least 1yr. I read an article where it was said that some of them were startin to make set demands like the Hollywood actors.

Apart from all these facts, our movie industry is growing. I have watched way better movies now. There was a time i was put off naija movies because of actors like Jim Iyke and Rita Dominic.
I used to like Rita dominics movies but all that changed when i went to the 2004 Nottinghill Carnival. She was ther with Jim Iyke, JJC and the 419 Squad and some other people. Her attitude at that event made me decide that i didn't like her anymore. As for Jim Iyke, he just has issues he needs to deal with. Some one tell him to stop trying to fake an American accent!!! its not working!!

I know this is old news, but before Genevieve Nnaji became the face of Lux, she and Omotola fought it out. I personally was in support of genevieve because she was younger so she would appeal to younger people more than Omotola will. I say this because she (Omotola) has 4 kids right? So yeah. Enewayz, genevieve emerged victorious and the world was back to normal again!!
